The Edison Park Neighborhood is situated on the northwest side of Chicago and was named after Thomas Alva Edison. Mr. Edison consented to the neighborhood title in 1890. Edison Park was only a fitting title as it was one of the first neighborhoods in Chicago to install electric streetlights at 6 major intersections. Because of this, Edison Park was originally marketed as Chicago's first "electric suburb." Bordered by Howard St to the North, the Kennedy Expressway to the South, and nestled between Harlem Ave to the East, and Canfield Ave to the West, Edison Park is served by the CTA Blue Line and the Metra. Strategically located near I-90, the Kennedy Expressway, O'Hare International Airport is readily accessible by way of car or CTA train.
Boasting an array of residences such as single-family homes, condos, bungalows, and two and three flats, residents of the Edison Park Neighborhood are served by Edison Elementary Regional School which was ranked no.3 as the area's best public elementary school by Chicago Magazine in October, 2005. The annual festival sponsored by the Edison Park Chamber of Commerce is the Edison Park Fest and is usually held in late summer. Primarily a food festival featuring dishes from throughout Chicago's northwest side, it also showcases local bands and a variety of merchant sidewalk sales, a parade, and several arts and crafts booths. Other notable attractions are Edison Park's acclaimed restaurant row and Edison Public Park. Statistics by Zip Code:
