The Chicago Gold Coast Neighborhood is within walking distance to the heartbeat of the city and is touted as the second wealthiest urban neighborhood in the United States behind Manhattan's Upper East Side. Nestled between the shopping district of the world famous Magnificent Mile and the botanical beauty of Lincoln Park, this mostly residential area is a tree lined picture postcard of Condominiums, Brownstones and Mansions. Also, Gold Coast is part of Near North Side Community Area.
Soon after the famed Potter Palmer established his residence there in the mid-1880s, the Chicago Gold Coast became the neighborhood of choice for the socially elite. Land use emphasis, focused on Real Estate, spurred the construction of High-Rise apartments, which were developed later to become Chicago's highly sought after Gold Coast condos. The "Condo Era," as it was known, marked its beginning in 1978 when "The Largest House on Astor Street," a gift of John Medill to his daughter, Nellie, was divided into condominiums. In the last thirty years, countless High-Rise Condos in Gold Coast have emerged, making the area one of the most densely populated in the city and thus creating a housing market for all types of people with a broad range of income. Just seconds from the lake, this Near North section of Chicago remains the premier neighborhood of choice for natives and Relocation buyers alike. Statistics by Zip Code:
