The North Center Neighborhood has roots dating back to the 1870's when Little Fort Road, now Lincoln Ave, was the only street that crossed the Chicago River and made North Center accessible. North Center's history is rich with the earliest of motion pictures being produced at Selig Polyscope studios which had several production buildings on Byron St between Western Ave and Oakley Ave which are currently used as residential homes and retail stores. Today, entertainment is a word that easily describes North Center Neighborhood's variety of retailers, performance theatres and venues, restaurants, and taverns. One of the busiest cross-streets in Chicago, the Lincoln Ave, Irving Park Rd, and Damen Ave intersection is a prime example of the bustling energy of the city. A surge of younger families and single professionals has sparked new condo construction and other real estate developments while maintaining the classic beauty of the architectural charm of the late 1800's and early 1900's buildings that adorn the area.
